Chatting Can Also Be Fun and Games
This series of articles are brought to you by WeChat – the new way to connect.
Do you remember the plain old days of basic SMS messaging on your basic Nokia dumb phone, when you could only text and send text-based emojis? What I remember is that texting used to be free in New Zealand for a period of time, and then telecommunication providers started charging us to send texts, to the point where it had costed us around 20 cents per text! This made us weary of the costs that prevented us from texting to our heart’s content with our friends and family for a few of us, and only for emergency texts.. until instant messaging and smartphones started becoming more popular!
When we did not have instant messaging on smartphones, there were no fun and games in texting. Now with various instant messaging services on multiple platforms of mobile, we can send funny stickers to our instant messaging buddies, send real emoticons, pictures short video clips, and maybe play a couple of games with them in real time as well!
WeChat, a type of internet messaging service, has a couple of these fun-filled options included in its app. There is the Shake feature which enables you to connect with a stranger who is also shaking their device at the same time, People Nearby feature which lets you find people to talk to that are nearby your location, a cool Walkie Talkie-like feature for group talking with your mates and/or family.
WeChat has a couple of fun features you can do to find your friends quickly on WeChat too. For example, there is the Friend Radar feature which if you all click on that feature at the same time, you can add the people closest around you.
Of course nothing can probably beat the good ol’ days when all you had was two cans and a piece of string to talk to one another! Nevertheless, as technology evolves, so does our ability to talk to one another via instant messenger apps. What used to be mediocre, is now revolutionizing into something better!
