[Review] Dyson V6 Absolute Cordless Vacuum Cleaner
You may remember me reviewing the Dyson DC23 Vacuum Cleaner previously. Today we have a more versatile, lighter, cordless vacuum cleaner to review: the Dyson V6 Absolute. Many traditional vacuum cleaners are pretty clumsy in terms of having a long wavey wand attached to a gigantic, heavy barrel system. This includes my Dyson DC23 Vacuum Cleaner which to be fair, is already a couple of years old. The cordless Dyson V6 Absolute is certainly a lighter way for anyone to enjoy vacuuming their house, and even your grandma will be able to haul this around the house!
The Dyson V6 Absolute is similar to a dustbuster vacuum in terms of its size, but is a lot more versatile than a dustbuster. It comes with two cleaner heads – a soft roller cleaner head and a direct-drive cleaner head, a crevice and soft brush, a wall-mounted docking station, charging cable, and a mini-motorised cleaner head.
The soft roller cleaner head removes large debris and fine dust simultaneously whereas the direct-drive cleaner head has bristles in it to dig deep into the carpet to remove that bit more dirt than traditional vacuum cleaners without rotating bristles. The mini-motorised cleaner head was great when vacuuming car mats, seats and spaces that were hard to reach with the normal cleaner head.
What I absolutely love about my Dyson V6 Absolute vacuum cleaner is how portable but powerful it is. One day I could be vacuuming the entire house with it, the next day I am vacuuming the car with the benefit of it being cordless. The possibilities with this are limitless! I can attach the long wand to it for vacuuming the floor, or I could remove it and attach a smaller tool to it for vacuuming the stairs. The tools that come with the V6 can all be mixed and matched to suit different types of situations.
The V6 Absolute takes about two hours to charge and can last up to 30 minutes (non MAX power) in a full charge. I was able to clean my entire house (~150 square meters) which was mildly dirty, in one full charge. MAX power certainly does work a lot harder to clean your floors, but also drains the battery 3 times as quickly. With MAX mode on, you only get about 7-8 minutes of use in a single full charge. When you first unpack the V6 Absolute Vacuum Cleaner, it is best to deplete the battery and charge it up fully at least twice, before being able to gain maximum battery in one full charge. Upon first using it after a full charge, it only lasted me around 15 minutes in normal mode and I was quite disappointed. However, after fully depleting the battery and charging it up a couple of times, the battery life was extended to around 30 minutes.
Dyson vacuum cleaners are best known for their power and cyclone technology which allows the cleaner to capture extremely fine dust. Dyson cordless vacuums are powered by the Dyson digital motor V6 (You can now confidently say to your car mates that you have a V6). This power-dense motor uses digital pulse technology and a neodymium magnet to spin at up to 110,000 times a minute. Its small size enables the V6 Absolute to be small, light and powerful.
Dyson’s patented cyclone technology in its vacuum cleaners enable powerful centrifugal forces to spin dust and dirt out of the air and into the bin. It also combines with the nickel manganese cobalt battery to create a powerful suction any time the vacuum is on.
And of course, the Dyson V6 isn’t complete without a HEPA filter. In fact it has two filters: one main filter and a post-motor filter which apparently expels air cleaner than the air you breathe!
Emptying the Dyson V6 Absolute is a lot easier than most traditional vacuum cleaners because of its one-touch release button. However debris and dust still accumulate and gets stuck around the edges of the canister which means you will still have to use your hands to manually remove it. A couple of blows should also get rid of it but then you create a dust cloud and all of a sudden it doesn’t become a very hygienic way to empty the canister!
In conclusion the Dyson V6 Absolute vacuum cleaner is my favourite vacuum cleaner to date. It’s portability, lightweight, and cordless features make doing chores around the home that much simpler. Now whenever I see dirt around the home I won’t have to get out the bulky barrel vacuum cleaner, plug it into the wall, attach the tools and manoeuvre it to the spot. I simply detach the V6 from the charging cable/docking station and carry it to the spot that needs vacuuming.
The Dyson V6 Absolute Handstick Vacuum Cleaner costs $899 RRP. As of today I see that Harvey Norman, Noel Leeming and JB Hi-Fi are selling this model for $699 or less which I think is a great deal.
