[News] New Tesla Model S Now the Quickest Production Car in the World
Tesla announced a new model to its Model S range yesterday. The Model S P100D with Ludicrous mode is the third fastest accelerating production car ever produced, with a 0-100km/h time of 2.5 seconds! Its predecessor the P90D model went 0-100 in 3.2 seconds in Ludicrous mode.
The Tesla P100D is not the fastest car in the world; the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder came in limited numbers, were expensive and cannot be bought new. They also have limited space in the car for other stuff.
The new P100D also come with the option of Tesla’s new 100kWh battery pack which will extend the range of the Model S to over 500km per charge, making it the first electric car on the market to exceed 480km of range. This option will also be available for the Model X, which will extend the range to 465km.
Tesla customers who have ordered a P90D Ludicrous, but not taken delivery, can upgrade to the 100 kWh pack for an extra 10 grand. Existing P90D Ludicrous owners can also upgrade to a 100 kWh pack, but for 20 grand, as their used 90 kWh pack will have to be recycled.
Tesla also wanted to reiterate the fact on why the Tesla P100D is ludicrously expensive: it is used to help make the new Tesla Model 3’s price lower as it uses the extra funds to produce the smaller, more affordable Model 3 vehicle which is still in development.
Unfortunately Tesla still does not have an official presence in New Zealand yet, but that is yet to change in the near future when the Model 3 arrives here as Tesla have confirmed. Until then, we shall have to make do with the BMW i3 and the Toyota Prius.
