First Impressions of the 2015 Mazda 6 Sedan

Mazda 6 2015 Sedan 1

I have been driving the 2015 Mazda 6 Sedan for about 5 days now and it has been a very positive experience trialing out this car so far.

The very first thing I can tell you is that this is a long car! Long car means it’s also very spacious, especially the boot space which has a storage capacity of 474 litres. I could fit inside the boot along with a mate, who is slightly bigger than me, and still had room to spare! The already-large boot space can be expanded to accommodate longer items by pushing the back seats down. While it is a long car, I still found it easy to drive.

You can fit large people in the boot!

The 2015 Mazda 6 Sedan is also very technology-orientated. It has a lot of safety features based on technology, notably naming the Blindspot Monitoring technology, Lane-Departure Warning, Radar Cruise Control, a Head-Up display, Rear-reversing camera and parking sensors around the back and front of the car. More information will be mentioned in the final review of the car.

The Mazda 6 also has a Bose sound system which sounds amazing in this vehicle. It has 11 speakers and a 231-watt amplifier. It also incorporates the Bose Centerpoint and Bose AudioPilot feature.

The Entertainment menu includes FM/AM Radio, aha, Pandora, Stitcher, Bluetooth audio i.e from my phone, USB stick, CD and AUX. I don’t use aha or Stitcher which seems to be an app that can organize a list of your favourite radio stations and podcast channels. The main ones I use are the FM Radio and Bluetooth audio for playing tunes off my phone e.g Spotify. I need to try out the USB feature, but I’m not sure who still uses a USB stick to play music in their car. Maybe there are people that still do that and use CDs!

Now more onto the car itself. The Mazda 6 uses Diesel which means it has very high torque at low RPMs meaning more power in lower gears. When I push down on the accelerator, it takes a while (1.5 seconds) to “kick-in” and accelerate, but once it does, the car literally flies. It pushes you right back into the seat. It’s like that feeling when you’re in an airplane and it stops momentarily after taxing to its runway to accelerate and take off. That immediate acceleration is like the Mazda 6’s acceleration.

The 2015 Mazda 6 is a car for people who like the best of both worlds. For example, the 7” touchscreen infotainment system is able to be controlled via touch, or via a commander dial in the middle of the console. It is like using a mouse. The touchscreen will not work while the car is moving, which is a good safety feature as leaning over to enter an address in the navigation system is not very safe to do while the car is in motion.

While the vehicle is an automatic transmission, it can also be used in manual mode: by either using the shift knob, or the paddle shifters which makes you feel like a racecar driver.

After 6 days of driving 657KM, today was the day where I needed to fill up. The tank can have a maximum capacity of 62 litres and the following picture will basically tell you the rest!
