Netflix Announces NZ Pricing
With a day to go until Netflix officially launches in New Zealand, Netflix have come out with their prices to their highly anticipated online streaming service. Meanwhile, Netflix competitor, Lightbox, have also decided to decrease their pricing slightly (from $15 to $12.99 per 30 days) to keep up with their competition.
Netflix are offering three tiers of pricing:
- Single-stream Standard Definition plan – $9.99
- Two-stream High-Definition plan – $12.99
- Four-stream 4K Ultra High Definition plan – $15.99
This means for the price specified, you will be able to stream one, two or four streams consecutively, at the respective video qualities.
Netflix will be available on a range of devices, including smart TVs, Apple devices, and gaming platforms; exclusive shows include: Bloodline, Marco Polo, Sense8 and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and in the coming months there will be Marvel’s Daredevil, Sense8 and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II: The Green Destiny.
Also available will be all seasons of Lost, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Broadchurch, The Tunnel and Chris Lilley comedy shows Ja’mie: Private School Girl, Summer Heights High and We Can Be Heroes.
Movies include: The Matrix, Ocean’s and Lord of the Rings trilogies, Happy Feet, Wedding Crashers, Cars, Monsters Inc, Up and Zoolander.
Members can also catch up on seasons one and two of the critically-acclaimed series Orange is the New Black. Season three will premiere June 12 exclusively on Netflix.
So there we have it. Netflix have finally made their service available to our shores and the pricing ain’t bad, especially compared to Sky TV’s Neon service which is offering its service from $20 a month.
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding Netflix pricing. This is because Netflix do not have to pay GST to serve NZ customers as their office is not based in NZ. Spark’s Lightbox have complained that it is not a “level playing field” as they have to pay taxes just like the rest of the NZ companies.
Netflix will offer a one-month free trial of its content for those who sign up. You will be able to do that at https://www.netflix.com/nz from tomorrow.
