[News] Orcon Launches Global Mode

Orcon

Since the inception of Global Mode on Slingshot, and the purchase by CallPlus of Orcon, Orcon have now become the next ISP to launch Global Mode in the CallPlus group. Global Mode is a free and automatic service that allows Kiwis to access global streaming websites like Netflix, Hulu and BBC iPlayer, even though they are in NZ, bypassing the geo-block imposed by those streaming services.

New Orcon General Manager, Michael Shirley says that Kiwis have been missing out on video content overseas and have been limited in what they can watch legally, online too.

“For too long now, consumers have been limited in regards to the websites they can access and content they can watch. Our customers want a platform where they can make those decisions for themselves and it’s great to be able to offer it to them.”

Slingshot was the first to launch Global Mode late last year, but have finally given it more exposure this year. They have also been banned by some companies (Sky, TVNZ) for advertising such services on their platforms.

Orcon customers need not to do anything to their accounts and modem as it should be already enabled, providing you are using Orcon’s own DNS. Plus it is also a free addition to your broadband plan!
