[News] Android Screen Mirroring to Chromecast Arrives
At Google I/O 2014, Google announced a bunch of new features for the Chromecast, one of which included the ability for you to screen cast your Android device to your Chromecast-enabled TV. The update for this feature has begun rolling out to certain devices today, but I have still not yet received it yet. It should be coming soon.
The list of supported devices at the moment are:
- Nexus 4
- Nexus 5
- Nexus 7 (2013)
- Nexus 10
- Samsung Galaxy S4
- Samsung Galaxy S4 (Google Play Edition)
- Samsung Galaxy S5
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3
- Samsung Galaxy Note 10
- HTC One M7
- HTC One M7 (Google Play Edition)
- LG G3
- LG G2
- LG G Pro 2
Google have specifically mentioned that the Android screen mirroring to Chromecast is currently a beta feature, and so there may be bugs on it.
You also must be connected to the same WiFi network as the Chromecast to be able to use this feature at the moment, despite Google also announced at Google I/O that you would soon be able to cast content to Chromecasts near you, without having to connect to that particular network. I guess soon is the keyword here, or that Android screen casting may never be available to users not connected to the same WiFi network.
Either way, we shall soon see. The update for the Chromecast app you will want to be looking for to enable screen mirroring is 1.7.
