[News] Google Unveils Chromecast SDK
Google’s Chromecasts have been a big hit for many people to buy since they were first released last year. The main reason for this is probably because of the low price point, that you could wirelessly stream certain content from somewhere, onto the big screen! However, there has been many limitations, such as there not being many ways to be able to stream your own personal content to your TV using the Chromecast. This should change starting today! The official SDK for the Google Chromecast is out for developers today!
This should mean that as developers get crazy with the SDK, we shall soon be starting to see more and more “cast” buttons on many services that we use everyday and wish to stream onto the TV. There are practically endless possibilities! Previously, if you wanted to stream content onto your Chromecast, the only ways to do it was to either use the Chrome browser and cast a tab, or to use a supported Chromecast app like YouTube.
But as with most fun things, there has to be a line that you should not cross somewhere, and this is where Google has created a list of user experience guidelines and a design checklist, detailing some of the best practices and guidelines the developer must follow in order to earn the “Google Cast Ready” branding.
The Google Cast extension app has been updated to version 14.123.1.2 in order to support this new change, and has also integrated the Google Cast Android API into version 4.2 of the Google Play services package (which rolls out to [Android] devices worldwide starting today) for Android devices.
