[News] Microsoft Changes SkyDrive Name to OneDrive

OneDrive Preview

Microsoft SkyDrive is the company’s cloud-based storage service that most of us already know. You can back up photos, store your documents, music, and maybe even some short video clips on there, and you’ll be able to view them anywhere with a decent internet connection, and a fair amount of data allowance. Microsoft is now changing the name of SkyDrive to OneDrive.

This was not a voluntary move, but a required move, because of litigation against them around six months ago. The British Sky Broadcasting Group (BSkyB) successfully claimed that SkyDrive had infringed on their “Sky” trademark, even though their company had nothing to do with cloud storage.

Microsoft claim this change makes OneDrive the “one place for everything in your life”, and you can view their short clip on OneDrive here:

When users switch over to the new OneDrive, everything will operate the way you expect and all your files will be available on OneDrive and OneDrive for Business. OneDrive replaces SkyDrive, and OneDrive for Business replaces SkyDrive Pro.
