[CES2014] Netgear NeoMediacast to Compete with the Google Chromecast
[Update: It seems like this will only be available for ISPs to “push” out their content to their subscribers or consumers, meaning that it may only work if your ISP supports this.]
Netgear has announced today the launch of its NeoMediacast HDMI dongle, which similary resembles the Google Chromecast. It is the size of a USB thumb drive, also similar to the Chromecast, and is made to plug into your TV’s HDMI port to stream content to it.
The NeoMediacast runs on Android 4.2, has 802.11ac wireless connectivity, and is even Miracast enabled! This means I will be able to stream movies and TV shows and stuff, from my devices and onto the big screen! Yes, the Chromecast can do this as well, but currently it has not been a smooth experience and it also lags and stutters making it nearly impossible to watch. Hopefully this can be improved in the future or maybe the Netgear dongle will work better.
Netgear also hopes that there will be some content stores made for the NeoMediacast and we’re not yet sure if the Google Play store will be integrated into this dongle.
The final question is… how much will it cost?
