[News] Vodafone 4G Just Got a Speed Boost

Vodafone NZ 4G

Vodafone, the country’s first 4G provider, has increased the speed and boosted the capability of parts of its 4G network.  This next generation of Vodafone 4G technology is designed to support the latest devices on the market.

Matt Williams, Vodafone Consumer Director, says these enhancements demonstrate the company’s continued drive for innovation for its customers.

“When we launched New Zealand’s first and only 4G network in February, we brought Kiwis the very best of what the world had to offer.”

“We built a superfast network that’s equipped to handle the demands of a tech-hungry nation. We know from our experience with thousands of 4G customers that users stream four times more content when they’re on 4G, for example.”

“Vodafone pioneered 4G in New Zealand, and now we’re giving customers even faster speeds.”

The next generation of 4G Category 4 (CAT 4) devices allows customers to reach speeds of up to 150 Mbps (theoretical maximum) – 50% faster than existing 4G devices.  Ongoing 4G network rollout around New Zealand will ensure customers experience these faster speeds in more places.

The Samsung GALAXY Note 3 and Sony Xperia Z1 are the first CAT 4 devices which will enable customers to enjoy these increased data speeds.  Three more CAT 4 products – the Samsung GALAXY S4, Vodafone R215 Pocket WiFi and Vodafone Mobile Broadband Vodem K5150 – will join Vodafone’s comprehensive 4G device range later this month.

Vodafone’s 4G network is now well-established, with broad national coverage available to over 1.26 million Kiwis across nine towns and cities: Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown, Wanaka, Lake Brunner, Taupo, New Plymouth and Palmerston North.

As part of planned network upgrades ahead of the holiday season, Vodafone will roll out 4G to a further 20 places around the country before the end of the year.
