[News] New Man for the Top Job at 2DegreesMobile
Following the tragic death of the previous CEO of 2DegreesMobile, Eric Hertz who died in a plane crash earlier this year, 2Degrees’ chairman Stewart Sherriff has been appointed the new CEO! Sherriff was previously flown in from Chicago in April to take over the CEO position temporary, but a decision has now been made for him to take the position permanently.
Stewart Sherriff has more than “35 years’ experience” in the telecommunications industry and is the senior vice-president and CTO (Chief Technical Officer) of 2Degrees’ major shareholder company – Trilogy International Partners. Sherriff will now resign from Trilogy but will continue to be the chairman of 2Degrees, until a replacement can be found.
Andy Scott, Head of 2DegreesMobile’s Board Recruitment Committee has said that Sherriff’s leadership for the company has “kept the business going” since Hertz’ death.
“In addition, the board was drawn to Stewart’s experience with a range of overseas mobile operators, especially his success as CEO of Ireland’s Meteor, which was the third entrant in a market with two dominant competitors,” Scott said.
Mr Sherriff says that the opportunity for him to lead 2DegreesMobile was a “unique and exciting challenge in a country he and his wife love.”
“There’s huge potential in 2degrees, which has redefined mobile for so many New Zealanders. Challenges like this don’t come along that often and for a rugby-mad Scotsman the location couldn’t be better,” he said.
Sherriff and his wife will now relocate to New Zealand from the United States to lead 2DegreesMobile to an even better future!
