[News] Mazda CX-9 Launched

Mazda CX-9 2016Mazda New Zealand has announced the launch of the all-new seven seater CX-9 SUV in Christchurch. The two wheel drive GSX model is priced from $52,995, whereas the Limited all wheel drive model is priced up to $62,995.

The new Mazda CX-9 is the first model to feature Mazda’s new 2.5 litre direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine: the SKYACTIV-G 2.5T. This engine delivers 420Nm of torque at 2,000rpm, and produces 170kW of power at 5,000rpm. Mazda have also said that they have overcome the limitations of a turbocharged engine such as turbo-lag and poor fuel consumption. This is thanks to a new technology by Mazda called Dynamic Pressure Turbocharging. By routing the exhaust to their turbocharger’s turbine through smaller ports at low rpms, it allows the turbocharger to spin up quickly, creating an almost instant boost. It will be good to see if this is really the case if we are able to test drive one in the near future.

When I first saw the Mazda CX-9 (picture above) I thought it was more a wagon, however that may just be the picture.

The new CX-9 features a lot of Mazda’s ‘Kodo’ design, and now the grille is re-designed to give a more prominent, menacing look when on the road.

The CX-9 also come with Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE safety techology package, and depending on what trim model you get will determine what extra safety features you get. The GSX model has blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, smart city brake support, reversing camera and rear parking sensors only, whereas the Limited model has all the above plus radar cruise control with stop and go function, adaptive headlamps, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, driver attention alert, forward obstruction warning, and front parking sensors too.

AWD is available on both trim models whereas the two wheel drive is only available on the GSX.

And it wouldn’t be a Mazda vehicle without its signature MZD Connect infotainment system!

The new Mazda CX-9 will be available in New Zealand to customers from the 1st of October 2016.
