A Trip to Wellington in the Mazda 6!

Mazda 6 2015 Sedan 3

As you are probably aware, we have the 2015 Mazda 6 Sedan on loan from Mazda til the 6th of January 2016. And what a better way to fully test out the Mazda 6, with a road trip down to Wellington from Auckland!

The route to Wellington from Auckland, according to Google Maps, is around 662KM and 8 hours 2 minutes long. According to the current fuel economy (runs diesel) of the Mazda 6, we should be able to get to Wellington even with traffic, with fuel to spare in the tank.

We most likely will stop en-route to Wellington, at Taupo for a lunch and toilet break.

Thanks to Mazda’s iStop technology, every time we come to a stop at a traffic light (which won’t be many) the car will automatically shut itself off, and lifting your foot off the brake starts the car immediately again. This helps to save fuel in the long run. I’ve asked the question before, but I’ll ask it again: Wouldn’t starting the engine every time use more fuel, than just letting it run during the few seconds of idle-ness? Found the i-Stop information here.

We will be leaving Auckland on the morning of the 23rd of December, and driving back up to Auckland on Christmas day!

Thanks to the good folks at Geekzone, I had started a thread asking people what are the good places to eat, sleep and play at: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=162&topicid=189102. You can also contribute if you have any good suggestions for us!

After the road trip, I will get started on my final, full review of the 2015 Mazda 6 Sedan. Please stay tuned for that!
