[News] Orcon and Slingshot Upgrade Global Mode Service
Orcon and Slingshot are upgrading their Global Mode Service so users will be able to switch between regions and watch content from different Netflix catalogues in the US and UK with ease.
Orcon launched Global Mode in August last year, while Slingshot launched Global Mode in mid 2013. Since the two companies have joined forces, Global Mode was eventually launched on Orcon.
Global Mode is a free and automatic service for Orcon and Slingshot customers that allows Kiwis to access global streaming websites like Netflix.
“With the rise of smart devices, and smorgasbord of streaming options available, Kiwis are rethinking the way they use broadcast TV,” says Orcon general manager Mike Shirley.
Slingshot General Manager Taryn Hamilton says the region-switcher is designed to make it easy for people to watch content from different Netflix catalogues.
“We welcome Netflix to New Zealand. Kiwis have been singing out for this service, and it’s fantastic it’s launching. But because initially the Netflix New Zealand content is likely to be weaker than overseas catalogues, users will want to switch to alternative regions to get the content they want. That’s why we are implementing region-switching, which will allow our customers to watch a range of Netflix catalogues.”
The Global Mode region switching feature will launch in March free-of-charge to Orcon and Slingshot customers.
