[News] Top Christmas Wishlist Items for Kids This Year
Telecom says smartphones, iPads and iPods are among the top items on Kiwi kids Christmas wishlists this year along with classic kiwi favourites – the bike and popular toy building bricks, Lego. Telecom also said that more than 130,000 phone calls have been made to the big guy in the North Pole since the opening of the Santaline in October this year.
Telecom Chief Operating Officer, Jason Paris said kids Christmas wishlists have vastly changed over the two decades that Telecom has been providing the direct line between Kiwi kids and the North Pole.
“When you think back to 20 years ago, no one had even thought of the smartphone – VCRs and Walkmans were the face of technology then. But I think most kids these days wouldn’t even know what those are! With smartphones and tablets now a crucial part of everyday life, it’s no surprise that the digital natives of our country are hoping to receive the latest gadget for Christmas.
However, Mr Paris acknowledges that even though the face of Christmas gifts continues to change there will always be a place for classic kiwi gifts under the Christmas tree.
“It’s great to see good old favourites like the bike and Lego make an appearance on Christmas lists again this year.”
Mr Paris also said that Telecom has seen a steady change in the way kids’ connect with Santa, with a growing number of kids emailing this year instead of calling – something that has been a consistent change over last few years.
“We are seeing Kiwi kids increasingly become ‘tech saavy’ and as Santa is an early adopter of technology, he welcomes this approach.”
“We’ve had assurance from Santa that he will be checking his emails regularly in the lead up to Christmas and so kids can continue to email him at [email protected].”
The Santaline continues to stay open and kids across the country can carry on the Christmas tradition and call Santa free from any landline, phonebox, or Telecom mobile on 0800 22 22 22 up until 25 December, 2013.
