[News] Kim Dotcom ‘in tears’ after deletion of all data from MegaUpload

LeaseWeb has told Kim Dotcom today that it had deleted all Megaupload files from 630 servers in February, after claiming that Megaupload only asked about it “three weeks ago.” It comes after LeaseWeb says it has hosted the data for over a year without anybody interested in it, including the police. But Kim Dotcom says otherwise…

Dotcom says that Megaupload’s lawyers had repeatedly asked LeaseWeb not to delete the files from their servers while court proceedings took place in the US.

“This is the largest data massacre in the history of the Internet,” Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom said on Wednesday evening.

Megaupload was shut down in 2012 by the FBI in conjunction with NZ police because of allegations that it had copyright infringement.

Alex de Joode, LeaseWeb’s security officer says: “60 servers owned by Megaupload that were stored at LeaseWeb were seized by the police and sent to the US in June.”

“Since there were no payments made and nobody seemed interested in the data, including police, LeaseWeb decided to reactivate the servers.”

And in order to do that, they had to wipe the servers clean!

We informed Megaupload of our plans to start using the servers again,” De Joode continued… “When LeaseWeb received no reply from Megaupload it subsequently started wiping the servers, which took almost the whole month of February this year!”

This means that millions of files stored on Megaupload have now vanished into thin air!

Kim Dotcom added: “Let me be crystal clear. LeaseWeb has NEVER informed our legal team or anybody at Megaupload about the deletion of servers until TODAY.”

It is too early to tell if there will be any legal procedures following the mass deletion at LeaseWeb.

So who do you think is telling the truth? Kim? or LeaseWeb?
