[News] Google Releases Glass Specs
The specs for Google Glass has just been announced today. It follows suite of other Google Glass announcements made by Google which include releasing the Glass Mirror API documentation, and letting developers know it is about to ship its first batch of Glasses to selected developers! Unfortunately, I am not one of those who were selected, but anyhow, I would’ve not been able to afford it anyway! Sponsors, maybe, anyone?? 😆
The display of Google Glass, will have a resolution that is apparently the equivalent size of a 25-inch high-definition screen from about 2.5 meters away. In the guide for developers, Google states that photos will have a 640 x 360 pixel resolution, so we’re guessing that this may be the resolution of the Glass. But Google did not state the actual resolution of the Glass.
Google Glass will work with any Bluetooth capable phone, but to be able to use GPS and SMS through Glass is to use the MyGlass Companion app through your Android 4.0.3 plus (only Androids are supported at the moment..).
The first version of Glass will feature a 5-megapixel camera that can record 720P video. It will also come with 16GB of flash storage of which only 12GB will be available for general use. This can be synced to Google’s cloud storage service.
According to Google, Glass should be able to last a full day of typical use with its battery. They also mentioned that features like Google Hangouts and video recordings on Glass, will typically reduce the time of the battery.
What was also mentioned was the “bone conduction transducer”. This allows the sound to transmit from Glass to the bones of the wearer’s skull. Doesn’t that sound sophisticated but cool at the same time?? Because this technology is used for Glass, users do not have to wear a pair of headphones while using Glass.
Google Glass is not yet known when it will hit the other markets in the world, and so of course, we do not know yet when it will be coming to New Zealand! I know I will be looking forward to Google Glass, will you?
