[News] Adblock Plus app for Android released on developer’s site
Because the Adblock Plus app for Android had been removed from the Google Play Store, you now have to manually install the app from the developer’s website. A new version of the app is now available. What does Adblock Plus do? Well it does what the title says. Adblock plus automatically blocks annoying pop-up ads, regular rectangle ads and even some in-video ads.
Adblock Plus for Android was removed from the Google Play Store on March 14, along with a number of other apps that do a similarly same job of blocking ads. The reason they [Google] are doing this is probably that so many users are using ad blockers that Google (and other companies) are actually seeing a decrease in ad revenue, and that these apps are breaching the Google Play Developer Program Policies of “interfering with ads or on a third-party application.” This removal is causing quite a bit of a stir at the moment.
The developers have now made the app available on their website and that is the only place you can get updates for the app on Android for the moment. Also note that you have to allow installation of apps from Unknown sources in the settings menu, in order to be able to install the Adblock Plus app.
The new version of Adblock Plus includes a few fixes of bugs and also makes manual proxy configuration much more easier as you have to configure them manually, and lastly, and the most important update, is that it [the app] automatically updates itself.
