[News] Google releases new Maps update for Android as iOS 6 releases
Google Maps |
Apple’s new iOS 6 release means no more Maps (or YouTube). Those two services/products offered by Google has been in Apple’s mobile operating system since the launch of the first iPhone 5 years ago in 2007!
It’s a shame that Apple has decided to remove those products and refresh them with their ones; Apple Maps for instance, is crappy. It does not live up to the extreme standard of Google Maps, but we may see some improvement on Apple’s side; we’ll have to see.
The search giant, Google, is lining up an explicitly timed update for Android Maps that definitely sees Google ahead of the competition. From what I’ve read on Google Play for the Maps update, the new update should give users the ability to sync across multiple devices, among other things. For example, if you’ve searched up an address on your computer on Google Maps, it’ll automatically show up on your phone making the experience much more convenient.
We are not sure if there will be a standalone Maps application for iOS but Google Maps VP Brian McClendon said that Google wants “to make Maps available for everyone,” possibly hinting a sign that an app may come to iOS in the near future.
