Some barrel vacuum cleaners can be cumbersome and frustrating: Machines that tip over, and are awkward to manoeuvre; bins that are messy and fiddly to empty; hoses that can get in the way, and tools that can disappoint. Dyson engineers have set out to solve these problems and the end result is: The Dyson Cinetic Big Ball vacuum cleaner.
James Dyson, the founder of the Dyson company, challenged its engineers to re-look at how the use of traditional vacuum cleaners could be improved.
“The problem with some barrel vacuums is that they can go off on a tangent and topple, leaving you to walk back over the floor you’ve just cleaned to right the machine. We challenged our engineers to refine the barrel format, to solve this problem and others. The Dyson Cinetic Big Ball barrel is the vacuum that self-rights when toppled.” said James Dyson.
Further advances include hygienic dirt ejection and an articulated handle which is explained further down.
The Dyson Cinetic Big Ball is compact and streamlined, but packed with inventive features that upgrade the user experience. It is the vacuum that self-rights when toppled and it’s the only vacuum with no maintenance and no loss of suction, as there are no filters to wash or replace and no bags to buy.
Conventional vacuums fall down and stay down. The Dyson Cinetic Big Ball barrel self-rights when toppled. Dyson engineers made this possible by assembling the vacuum’s components in a spherical array, with the heaviest nearest to the floor. Placing them inside a curved body with a low centre of gravity means that whenever the vacuum is displaced, gravitational forces will automatically return it to its upright resting position.
Core components are housed within the ball, allowing the vacuum to turn on the spot and follow you effortlessly around the home.
Hygienic Dirt Ejector
As the bin is emptied, a silicone collar slides down the shroud. This scrapes off trapped dirt or debris, driving them out. This means you do not need to touch the dirt or reach inside the bin. Plus the bin is also 33% bigger than previous Dyson vacuums.
The wand’s articulated handle now rotates in three directions, allowing 360° movement for easy, versatile cleaning with less effort. The wand is longer than previous Dyson vacuums, extending up to 1250mm. And because the hose is kept closer to the wand, it also reduces the machine’s storage footprint.
Dyson Cinetic Science
36 Dyson Cinetic tips separate the microscopic dust that can clog conventional vacuums. Vacuums with Dyson Cinetic science do not lose suction, and capture dust, dirt and microscopic particles down to 0.3 microns in size. The dust separation is efficient enough that there’s no need to wash or replace a filter.
The Dyson Big Ball Vacuum Cleaner is available from electrical stores nationwide with an RRP from $799.
